Since announcing their return in October, Danger Mouse and James Mercer have methodically illustrated why it’s really hard to dismiss BROKEN BELLS. The duo’s project sits in a comfortable spot between dreamy alt sprees and sexed-up indie surges, and live, it comes out of its shell to expose their unblemished qualities: nostalgia-tripping melodies, Lost In Space-psychedelia, and Mercer’s crippling range. Much like their current trek for After The Disco, their stopover at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall (March 3rd) was an exhibit of how those characteristics merge into each other and, well… carve the outer layer of your soul with a new aesthetic. Williamsburg’s AU REVOIR SIMONE provided support with an eye-opening set and photos of both performances can be found below via Jeff Filman.
