Earlier this week, Chicago’s THE ORWELLS returned to the great North – after meeting Nardwuar, doing KEXP, and previewing their new full-length – and they turned the Hard Luck Bar upside down (again). The garage chuggers were on their own, headlining with Pitchfork-loved local punks THE BEVERLEYS, and they knocked everyone’s shit around by going through their usual bag of tunes. They seemed a bit tired out in front of the night’s younger, more impatient crowd but the road has its downs coming to the end of a tour run. Just don’t count them out; up close, they’re audacious and adept at leaving you strung out on the vintage Elektra sound that leaks out of their speakers.
The Orwells’ upcoming record Disgraceland will be out on June 3rd via Warner/Atlantic – grab a pre-order here.
