Following a few standout sets at Austin’s SXSW fest (click here), ALBERT HAMMOND JR. made the trip to Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern for a Tuesday night romp (April 3rd) that romanticized rock ‘n’ roll. The L.A.-born guitar wizard armed himself with intimacy and made the most of it — rummaging through selects from Francis Trouble and Yours To Keep while letting his vocals fly during deeper cuts (“GfC”, “St. Justice”) and an encore-only rework of Guided By Voices’ “Postal Blowfish”. It was enough to emphasize his staying power and with THE MARIAS in tow (see “I Like It”, “Only In My Dreams”), it made for a night that wasn’t afraid to get down and snip a few heartstrings.
