Lest we forget, TY SEGALL is still the motherfucking man. The West Coast fuzz maestro has been on a legendary tear since 2008 and with the release of Freedom’s Goblin, it really only made sense for him to return to Toronto for a mid-week soirée at The Danforth (April 11th). This time around he was armed with Mikal Cronin (bass), Emmett Kelly (guitar), Ben Boye (keys), and Charles Moothart (drums), and the fivesome kicked out the jams — spinning through raw covers of The Groundhogs’ “Cherry Red” and Hot Chocolate’s “Every 1’s A Winner” before rampaging through a three-song finisher comprised of “Love Fuzz”, “Feel”, and “Wave Goodbye”. It eventually encored into the Freedom cut “She” and it was enough to show that Ty and company are still capable of using rawk ‘n’ roll fundamentals to earworm their way into your heart.
