Armed to the teeth with hundreds of newcomers, NORTH BY NORTHEAST opened its doors to the masses on Wednesday and Thursday, and every sound addict known to man stormed in. Bikes zipped, brews flowed and sets literally exploded in the city’s west end as The Horseshoe Tavern and the Silver Dollar Room buzzed into the night. Merge Records ripper MIKAL CRONIN kicked off his residency alongside INVASIONS and THE DIRTY NIL while popular favourites DIANA, MERCHANDISE and NU SENSAE got weird with bromance and search-and-destroy moments. California’s SOCIAL DISTORTION also hit the stage at Toronto’s Yonge & Dundas Square and though everyone found themselves dancing in the rain, the four-piece’s performance sabotaged Mother Nature’s cameo.
