Whereas Friday’s festivities slowed things down for the 9-to-5ers, Saturday’s quick start had every Pitchfork attendee feeling like Bobby Shmurda. Sure, not being able to see Death Grips beat bloggers to death with “Lord Of The Game” is a hard pill to swallow, but PMF countered the blow by blowing up. In no time at all, Chicago’s Union Park became a packed haven for Missed Connections, unusual indie celeb sightings, and an endless supply of free Chipotle. Saturday’s lineup was also a bright spot as the eclectic bill went above and beyond and drew attention to the festival’s appetite for compelling performances. In the span of nine hours, Kelela and FKA Twigs provided a win for R&B; Empress Of, Mas Ysa, and tUnE-yArDs dished out some proof to their Spotify hype; and even though Pusha T was super late to hit the stage, his set pistol-whipped doubters with a cavalcade of hot tracks (“Nosetalgia”, “So Appalled”). St. Vincent’s guitar shredding was also one of the biggest things to hit the Internet this year – especially as it sparked the debate of “artist v.s. performer” – but it also showed Pitchfork knows how to keep everyone’s thumb on the “Tweet” button.
