Photos: The National, Jenny Lewis at Fort York

Here is a controversial take for you: THE NATIONAL are one of the greatest bands of this generation. They’ve been deserving of that title for more than a decade now but even on the busiest weekend of the summer, they found a way to host their own little shindig at Toronto’s Fort York grounds (August 4th) with names such as JENNY LEWIS, JULIEN BAKER, and FATHER JOHN MISTY. Their counterparts delivered in every possible way and as expected, Matt Berninger and company tore the house down (and then some) — thumbing their way through an extensive 20-song setlist that sunk into Sleep Well Beast and unearthed a mess of feels with “Bloodbuzz Ohio”, “I Need My Girl”, “Terrible Love”, and “Don’t Swallow The Cap”. It was extraordinarily gorgeous and a much needed tug on the soul so if you missed it, swipe through our photos above via Jeffrey Filman.

The National’s Sleep Well Beast is out on iTunes through 4AD; for show listings + more, visit CollectiveConcerts.com
