WHO: Tame Impala
WHERE: The Horseshoe Tavern, Toronto
WHEN: November 24 2010
Jot down the words “hipster”, “moustache” and “concert” and you’d expect some sort of Movember jamboree featuring electronic pop bands you’ve never heard of. That wasn’t the case for the Wednesday crowd at The Horseshoe Tavern. With barely any room to stretch, onlookers took in Tame Impala’s psych dream pop that draws comparisons to the likes of Cream and Pink Floyd with a hint of John Lennon’s voice. Pitching the Australian group, led by barefoot frontman Kevin Parker, next to those acts may be an exaggeration, but their tendency to explore layers of music displays a very likable 60s’ persona.
