STEPHEN MALKMUS, HOLY SONS
PHOENIX CONCERT THEATRE, TORONTO / SEPT. 21
It’s hard to argue 2011 is not the Year Of Pavement. With the group making a return – that send indie rock fans convulsing on the floor – STEPHEN MALKMUS’ credibility as a musician practically blew up. His recent performance alongside Portland group HOLY SONS (fronted by songwriter Emil Amos) at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto supported that as Malkmus belted out tunes with his backing band, keeping audience members in awe and surrounded by refreshing sounds that cued up images of an indie rock Bob Dylan or Paul Simon. In between the fuzz and riffs, the songwriter kept his cool, delighting anyone and everyone.
