FREELANCE WHALES, HUNDRED WATERS
THE MOD CLUB, TORONTO / JANUARY 17TH
Making pretty good songs sound like shards of experimental bliss that’s good for the soul, FREELANCE WHALES and HUNDRED WATERS showed some range during their set at The Mod Club this past Thursday. Indie rock always gets that easy-peel label for being adventurous, but both acts – from NYC and Gainesville respectively – dug into tunes that shimmered, soothed and self-destructed with the sort of intricacy you want to zone out to while laying underneath the stars in the middle of July. It’s a rare feeling but these bands give it the attention it deserves.
