Founded in 2001, The Summer Slaughter Tour unloaded its 2013 edition in Toronto just a few days ago and it nearly left the place in shambles. Seriously. If anyone says bands like THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, NORMA JEAN and PERIPHERY have lost a few ounces of brutality, make sure to casually bring up this one-off at Sound Academy. The place was practically dripping with “I’ll tear your eyes out”-hardcore that used a beautiful assortment of sounds – including ANIMALS AS LEADERS’ wordless prog hitters – to punish every dark corner in your head. The sets were a notch above decadent, and if you haven’t had the chance to rifle through new albums such as Norma’s Wrongdoers and Dillinger’s One Of Us Is The Killer, it’s best you do so now.
