Going Live: August Burns Red, Defeater

More so than ever, Manheim’s AUGUST BURNS RED have developed into a father figure for hardcore/metalcore. The five-piece are absurdly tight and somewhat irreplaceable in their genre, as their performances are hard-hitting, titan-sized, and overflowing with impressive frenetic runs that still replicate Pelican and BTBAM. Seeing all of the above collide at Toronto’s Sound Academy on Thursday (November 28th) was an early holiday treat and one that multiplied thanks to dialed up sets from BEARTOOTHDEFEATER, and BLESSTHEFALL. The fall tour’s openers were both predictable and unpredictably riveting, with each band reverberating their own shade of metal-ed out punk throughout every inch of steel and concrete. It was hard to keep a beanie on, so check out our photos below.
