Going Live: Crosses, Dawn Golden

Crosses-1Since unveiling the project in 2011, Chino Moreno’s work with CROSSES (†††) has been described as “bewitching”, “gloomy”, and “a creepy thing”, so you have to wonder if anyone’s actually paying attention. The collaboration with Shaun Lopez (Far) and Chuck Doom is electronics-heavy, but it’s stapled with beautiful atmospherics that flicker and surge when the noise becomes visceral. It’s a style any Deftones fan can appreciate it, especially in a mid-size venue as Crosses’ tour stop at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan, (January 13th) showcased how Chino and co. can go from stimulating to ear-splitting in just a matter of seconds. Houses’ Dexter Tortoriello, aka DAWN GOLDEN, opened the night and repped the Mad Decent crew the right way, tricking out mixes and manipulating a selection of melancholic beats. Seriously, go listen to his rework of Major Lazer’s “Original Don” and take a peek at our photos.

Crosses’ self-titled debut will finally be out in stores on February 11th via Sumerian Records (pre-orders here)
