Going Live: Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea-1Regardless of what critics think, IGGY AZALEA is irreplaceable. The 23-year-old Aussie is a valid definition for the term “head turner” based on her devotion to interlacing her ruthless bravado with a gripping back-story. Her debut, The New Classic, subsists on the same combo and it was in full effect at her recent solo stop at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall. Everything from the stage set to her panache outfit screamed “IGGY” and Azalea found her zone as soon as she strolled on stage, turning the venue inside out with a dapper four-way (“Beat Down”, “Fuck Love”, “Bounce”, “My World”) before settling into “Pu$$y”, “Flexin’ & Finessin”, and a clutch full of new album cuts. If you still have a few doubts about the emcee, then scrap them stat. Whoever’s sequencing Azalea’s setlist knows how to #turnup.

“Irreplaceable” ? C ‘ Mon now I have nothing against this chick but please don’t try to sell me on the fact that she’s some “hidden gem”. At best she is tolerable because she is nice to look at. But honestly I could find a hundred girls that do what she does, and even better. Her voice is borderline ear rape and her “lyrics” make me yearn for the clever word play of a speak-in-spell.
