MAC DEMARCO is growing up and growing up fast. His shows will always maintain a bit of mystery as we’ve seen him perform nine times over the past two years and have yet to be let down, but the venues are getting bigger, and going from Toronto’s Parts & Labour to The Opera House is a big deal. Despite this, Mac is unfazed. He was born to command large crowds – especially on a Friday night (June 20th) during a large festival such as North By Northeast.
After sweaty garage sets from THE MEATBODIES, SAINT RICH, and CALVIN LOVE, Mac did what he does best and breezed through crowd pleasers and spontaneous cover songs before asking the entire audience before him to “kneel for Neil Young”. It’s not the most outrageous gesture (we got spooned at least twice in 2012) but there is a hashtag for it and that in itself puts his bright future on blast.
