Even if you have piano recital or a date with Netflix, you need to find a way to attend a UNITED NATIONS’ show. Geoff Rickly’s part-time project is a nostalgic rush of sorts as it conjures memories of when people actually glued themselves to everything Thursday/Daughters/Converge, but it’s also a picturesque view of a band that shows you one door and proceeds to push you through it. That’s where United Nations’ trip to Toronto comes in. Their set at Sneaky Dee’s (August 7th) was loud, emphatic, and scarring if you consider Deeper The Wound gospel, and Reagan masks aside, it was a public display of talent with FOXMOULDER, BLACK CLOUDS, and FRAMEWORKS carrying their own weight. It didn’t produce TMZ headlines but who needs them when every note can render you useless.
