When it comes to pop music, EMPRESS OF’s Me is an understated gem. Lorely Rodriguez’s full-length debut has been praised by the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, and The New York Times, and her new video for “Standard” is a eloquent look into what you’ve been missing out on. It’s a bit strange and a tad reminiscent of Perfume Genius’ clip for “Hood”, but it drags you into Rodriguez’s fractured corner of dream pop and pretty much leaves you there until you’re ready to move on.
