THE REATARDS
(MEMPHIS, TN | WWW.MYSPACE.COM/THEEREATARDS)
WHY YOU’LL LIKE THEM: More of a tribute than a profile, nonetheless The Reatards were loud, raw, sincerely didn’t give a f*ck and most of all, were talented. Often cast away as one of Jay Reatard’s many side projects, the band formed in 1997 and highlighted the musician’s inner angst and passion for music at the ripe age of 16, clashing shards of punk with garage rock, bits of which can be found in today’s rising lo-fi/surf movement. Though what made The Reatards was the energy they poured into every show and onto every stage, some of which highlights the documentary Better Than Something and inspired Goner Records to recently reissue the group’s Teenage Hate LP.
