TENNIS
THE HORSESHOE TAVERN, TORONTO / FEB. 29TH

Underneath a dark red light and in front of a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd at The Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, Denver indie rockers TENNIS displayed what they do best. While most may think it’s redesigning indie to be a style that tip-toes into lo-fi, hip hop and retro pop, the band’s front duo of Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley – along with James Barone on drums – quietly use their music to sketch out a place to find comfort in. It may sound cliche, but the band’s surf ripping guitars and rapturous voice pull off the effect, and it’s something the sold-out audience couldn’t shake off even if they wanted to because even though beauty in music is rare, it’s lovingly contagious.
