Coming from Topshelf Records and No Sleep, hardcore comrades PIANOS BECOME THE TEETH and XERXES made their first headlining run in Toronto and gratifyingly blew any expectations straight out of the water. Their genre tends to be fixated on bright colours and instituting breakdown with breakdown, but the show at the Hard Luck Bar exemplified how compelling their own brand of post-rock screamo can be, with layers of aggressive guitars and gentle melodies entwining together to rip apart your conscious until you move along to the emotional output.
