FLORENCE + THE MACHINE, THE WALKMEN
MOLSON AMPHITHEATRE, TORONTO / AUGUST 2ND
If one thing’s for sure, Florence Welch and the Molson Amphitheatre are a match made in heaven. Usually vocalists don’t dominate an outdoor venue, especially a sold-out 16,000-capacity spot in Toronto, but FLORENCE + THE MACHINE and THE WALKMEN changed all of that with commanding performances that echoed with the sweet serenity of vocal narratives. As the New York rockers swallowed urgency whole with Hamilton Leithauser’s empowering croon, Florence’s dynamic and compelling voice carved a form of unconscious attraction that tiptoed from the start of “Only If For A Night” all the way to the end of the gripping Ceremonials cut “No Light, No Light”.
