Introducing: Isaiah Rashad

Isaiah Rashad“Master P is really the guy who made me want to rap. I was a stan for him as a kid”

TDE’s latest rookie has seen airtime on New York’s Hot 97 and may have love for both Erykah Badu and Curren$y, but what makes ISAIAH RASHAD so sonically appealing is his chosen style isn’t pre-medicated. On some wavelength, he’s a rare talent from Chattanooga, Tennessee – a scenic locale occasionally known for police reality shows and housing a college athlete named Terrell Owens – and he steadily tiptoes variations of K.R.I.T. and every side to Black Hippy. Just look at the work he’s done so far: “Hurt Cobaine” swirls around a young Cudi being a #realtalk rapper, “Hii (Fuck Love)” frolics with a codeine beat, and “Like That” is a numbing ode to Cole World and Habits & Contradictions.

A proper debut will certainly showcase what Rashad can carve out of his own space and his two new-ish singles (“Shot U Down”, “Ronnie Drake”) prove his toughness and skills weren’t bred for emulating others. He could stick to the West Coast or morph into some lyrical menace, but he’s more apt to prepare caskets for flashy Atlanta rap and blunted tracks that have no business being in the club. Any which way you flip it, there’s a new breed in the South.
