There are bound to be people that disagree, but the last day of Pitchfork Music Festival single-handedly delivered one of the best lineups of the 2010s. And it doesn’t take a social influencer or a conceited record store employee to understand why. Sunday (July 20th) double-dipped into every modern genre (sorry Opeth fans) and came out swinging as Real Estate, DIIV, and Dum Dum Girls let their chemistry float on, Canadian pop diva Grimes was backed by P4K faves Majical Cloudz and Hudson Mohawke, and Perfect Pussy and Deafheaven said yes to love with two of the weekend’s loudest and most powerful showings. Shoegaze idols Slowdive and OF’s Earl Sweatshirt held their own slots with ease and the rest of the bill was all about that TDE, which started with Isaiah Rashad and Schoolboy Q and ended with Kendrick Lamar doing a 10-song run that hit more like Tyson than Mayweather. We could be casting the festival in an overhyped light but our galleries show there’s some truth to our aforementioned claims. Pitchfork Fest is slowly losing its hipster-approved shirt as its momentum, production, and curation is crafting an unparalleled look. For proof, scroll through the photographs below.
