Photos: Foxygen, Dub Thompson at The Mod Club

Foxygen-12Cali’s FOXYGEN continued their Fall trek across North America with a stop at Toronto’s Virgin Mobile Mod Club (October 14th), and for what it’s worth, they deserve every ounce of your attention. Jonathan Rado and Sam France’s project has seen darker days with comparisons to the Olive Garden, but from an unadulterated point of view, they’re just two artists reviving sounds that once made the radio cool. Exhibit A being And Star Power‘s stage presence.

The Mod Club is by no means an audiophile’s wet dream but Rado and France made it work – fending off the city’s heat wave to slide through their new double album, letting singles (“How Can You Really”, “Coulda Been My Love”) kickstart a dip into groovier deep cuts (“Brooklyn Police Station”, “Everyone Needs Love”). Things got sweaty, the backing band got loose, and much to the surprise of everyone, Foxygen clicked. In our opinion, that fact alone makes their set an absolute treasure. DUB THOMPSON opened and you can find Victoria Charko’s photo galleries below.
