It’s 2015 and guess what? Metalcore is alive and well. It’s hard to believe it still exists, but it’s thriving thanks to progressive minds that feel way too claustrophobic when they’re stuck underneath labels. PA’s AUGUST BURNS RED fits that mold and their commitment to being innovative was on full display at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre on Friday (January 30th). Ohio’s MISS MAY I and Sydney’s NORTHLANE hammered through their own numbing sets, but Jake Luhrs and co. tested their limits – tearing through five records and ten years of music while driving home a drum solo piece that folded into a Leveler one-two. The sight was a vivid tease of an album that’s on its way and if you missed out, check out Jeff Filman’s stills above.
