Regardless of what anyone has to say about his new found success, SKEPTA is well aware that patience is everything. The London MC has put in work during the past 12 months (and the past decade) and it shows as his recent debut in Toronto managed to redefine the word “massive”. Shortly after performing at Drake’s OVO Fest on Monday (August 3rd), Skepta made his way over to The Hoxton and barely wasted anyone’s time – diving straight into the likes of “It Ain’t Safe” and “That’s Not Me” only to close with an unruly recital of “Shutdown”. To be fair, the sold-out gig was already buzzing thanks to LOUIE P and TRE MISSION, but it’s hard to knock the energy Skept can bring to a venue. His presence alone is both riveting and electric, and in close quarters it’s clear: Skepta is steadily becoming a classic on his own terms.
