Photos: Ty Segall, CFM at The Danforth

This past weekend, TY SEGALL AND THE MUGGERS played to a packed house at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall and while it was a nose dive into weirdness, it was an extremely pivotal moment for Marc Maron’s favourite new rocker. For starters, Charles Moothart debuted his new CFM project — riffing off bits of textural psych rock (see “Purple Spine”) — and Ty responded by going full tilt with the likes Mikal Cronin, King Tuff, and Wand’s Cory Hanson and Evan Burrows. There were the garage freak outs (“Feel”, “You’re The Doctor”) and the beach bro hymns (“Thank God For The Sinners”), and by the end of the night it became clear: it’s pretty damn hard to upstage the power of friendship.
