Picture this: RAE SREMMURD and KACEY MUSGRAVES co-headlining a showcase at SXSW. Well… it happened. The odd pairing helped close out The FADER Fort on Thursday (March 17th) and their B2B sets wound up being one of the biggest highlights of the week as Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy’s bounce into “No Type” and “By Chance” led into Kacey’s countrified covers of Bob Marley, Gnarls Barkley, and Nancy Sinatra. The Fort’s target demo didn’t exactly stay for the change in tune, but it’s hard not to praise The FADER for trying to resuscitate the offbeat curating that originally made SXSW cool. It was a risk on their part, and in this case, it worked. Check out our photo gallery above via Seita Goto.
