Photos: Julien Baker at The Drake Hotel

There are songwriters and then there’s JULIEN BAKER. The 20-year-old played a sold-out show at The Drake Hotel in Toronto earlier this week (Apr. 19th) and for those who still obsess over Either/Or and Figure 8, it was a fairly emotional trip. The Memphis native wasted no time in dissecting her debut album — underlining the major points in “Something”, “Sprained Ankle”, and “Brittle Boned” while letting every relatable sentiment drift off into the audience and hit like a bus that’s moving at 200 miles per hour. L.A.’s PHOEBE BRIDGERS opened with her own cache of gritty heartbreakers (“Georgia”, “Ask Me To/Steamroller”) and photographer Jeff Filman was on hand to grab a couple of stills. Check out his photo gallery above.
