The last day of FUJI ROCK was a blast from the past as Sunday’s bill (July 24th) turned out to be a grand ode to “the tiny festival that could”. The Japanese mainstay held its first event back in 1997 and it was only fitting that the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS would return a few decades later to cap off a diverse closer that featured BATTLES, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, STEREOPHONICS, LEON BRIDGES, BABYMETAL, and DEAFHEAVEN. Things got loud, sweaty, and a tad bit hazy as taking in The Wilderness and Californication b2b is an absolute trip, but that’s just Fuji Rock — they’re a festival that takes pride in promoting freedom and curating memories that are larger than life.
