Photos: The Wrecking Ball ATL 2016

Tip: If you like punk rock, then you’ll absolutely adore the idea of wearing out your favourite pair of Vans at WRECKING BALL ATL. The Atlanta, Georgia festival crowd-surfed its way to glory this past week (August 13th-14th) and while it was a bittersweet farewell to The Masquerade’s original spot — a restored excelsior mill in the Old Fourth Ward — it used its five stages and 50+ bands to stir up some sing-a-longs and raise some hell.

Wrecking Ball has its own specific niche (think The Fest meets Treefort) but this year’s take managed to carve out something new as it featured the likes of THURSDAY, DEERHUNTER, DRIVE LIKE JEHU, RAINER MARIA, TOUCHE AMORE, JOYCE MANOR, FOXING, THE MENZINGERS, and AMERICAN FOOTBALL. It had its “Punk Is Dad” moments at times but the undercard — i.e. FOX WOUND, DIET CIG, and LOOMING — helped turn the festival’s 34-hour run into one unforgettable weekend. Check out our live photo sets below via Atlanta’s own Kate Teegardin.
