Photos: Whitney at Lee’s Palace

On Saturday night (Oct. 15th), Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich’s retro folk outfit WHITNEY played in the main room of Toronto’s Lee’s Palace and wasted no time in grooving out. The group’s performance was some kind of special as they killed the house lights and riffed into fan faves (“Polly”, “The Falls”), a “reggae song about love” (“On My Own”), and meticulous covers of NRBQ’s “Magnet” and Bob Dylan’s “Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You”. New York’s SAM EVIAN opened with a teaser for Premium and photographer Steve St. Jean was there to capture most of the night on film (using a Nikon F100 and Kodak Portra 800). His stills are above.
