Touring in support of CTRL, the artiste known as SZA recently headlined Toronto’s Rebel Nightclub (August 23rd) and made her mark as one of the most captivating songwriters of this generation. St. Louis’ own SMINO kicked the night off with a blkswn-heavy set that flipped heads with flows (see “Anita”) but SZA owned it — shading in a homespun blend of pop and R&B that continues to speak in colours. Every quip, croon, and nod to 2014’s Z put her live show’s minor setbacks in a body bag while songs like “Love Galore” and “Drew Barrymore” underlined what she does best: mesmerize and repeat. We managed to get a few stills of the night that was so check out our photo gallery above (c/o Maggie Elizabeth).
