Photos: Angel Olsen at The Phoenix

Holy hell is ANGEL OLSEN incredible. The Missouri-born singer-songwriter has been an absolute marvel since releasing Halfway Home in 2012 but as her two-night stand at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre (December 6th) showed, she’s really just getting started. Dressed in a silver catsuit that screamed Bowie and Goldust, Olsen followed up HERON OBLIVION’s opening frame on night one with a stark 14-song set that cut through My Woman and its ability to smother you with sheer heartache. Hearing her weave through tandems such as “Hi-Five” and “Shut Up Kiss Me” is always a delight but actually watching her take a song like “Sans” and swerve straight into “Unfucktheworld” is some timeless stuff — especially when your heart is already caught on a string and doing its best to wade through the butterflies.
