GOING LIVE: Heavy T.O. 2012 (Day Two)

Before you categorize HEAVY T.O. as just another weekend festival full of raging fans baring tattoos, examine your thoughts and toss them out the window. If there’s one thing Sunday taught us it’s bands of all tastes – whether it be death metal, metalcore, or even deathcore – can stun you in their own unique way, even if its nightmarish rather than strategic. Supporting the night’s headliners, Chicago’s VEIL OF MAYA and North Carolina outfit BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME pushed their boundaries to emphatically “slay” and while CANNIBAL CORPSE and JOB FOR A COWBOY excelled, the return of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE was the night’s true highlight. With vocalist Jesse Leach intact, the group resurrected the year 2002 and turned certain moments of transcendence into shards of beauty.
