OUR LADY PEACE, MOTHER MOTHER
ECHO BEACH, TORONTO / AUGUST 19TH
Concluding a busy summer, OUR LADY PEACE’s performance at Echo Beach in Toronto illustrated that even with a step into experimentation, they can still take a 19-song set and pummel your eardrums until it delightfully forfeits. Compared to previous appearances this year, the alt group worked out an impressive layout with domineering openers (MOTHER MOTHER, SAID THE WHALE) that soothingly cast the hometown rockers into a different light. One where strings glided around a voice carving notes with authority whenever the night needed to be illuminated. You could call it luck as an outdoor venue can be favourable but even the band’s classics stung on a foreign level.
