Going Live: SXSW 2013 (Day One)

We’re used to venue-hopping because it’s in our blood but SXSW 2013 did not delay its music programming on Wednesday. Afternoon shindigs by Waterloo Records and Gorilla v.s. Bear got a headstart, and before you knew it, Austin kicked everyone’s head in. The launch of Thrasher’s Death Match saw TRASH TALK and WAVVES ignore foot braces and the heat to impale with mosh pits and fuzz blasts, and even the FADER Fort tipped its bucket hat with sets by AB-SOULSCHOOLBOY Q and KENDRICK LAMAR who was introduced with “Backseat Freestyle”.

Knee deep in the horrible idea of waiting in line without a drink, we opted for the The Warner Sound/Nikon party. The Belmont didn’t feature Iggy Pop but SKATERS and TEGAN AND SARA scratched out guitar sounds while the night’s headliner, PARAMORE, reintroduced themselves with the kind of pop punk that lingers in your veins.
