Going Live: Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Wolf People

Whether you’re a bar-hopper, a vinyl whiz or a Twitter rapper, you can’t hate a technical band for being technical. Such is the case for UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA, but as we learned in our interview in March, the Kiwis transfer scribbles into fluent bursts of rock n’ roll that fall under Captain Beefheart and Real Estate and occasionally find a way to produce rap wonders. That was beyond apparent at their recent jam session at Toronto’s Lee’s Palace as the threesome tore through their two albums (six songs a piece) while everyone tripped over their fret work and tripped out to the artwork that peeked out from the back. Fellow Jajaguwar-eans WOLF PEOPLE joined UMO as support (check out “All Returns”) and the rest of the night became one irie daydream. Peep our photo sets below.
