JAKE BUGG just doesn’t know when to quit. The English songwriter/guitar virtuoso has released two notable LPs in the past two years and has toured relentlessly behind scrappy recordings like “Lightning Bolt”, “Slumville Sunrise”, and “What Doesn’t Kill You”. So in retrospect, it just made sense to see him perform alongside The Strokes’ axeman ALBERT HAMMOND JR. The two swerved their North American trek over to Toronto’s Sound Academy this week (January 14th) with the Cali guitar vet cruising through a poignant set (see “St. Justice”) while Bugg slashed through almost 20 tracks. The list authenticated the 19-year-old’s gifts and range but it also featured a cover of Neil Young’s “My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)” which made everyone believe in his penchant for being a rock n’ roll musician.
Albert Hammond Jr.’s AHJ EP is out on Cult Records while Jake Bugg’s Shangri-La is available via Universal/Island
