Following in the footsteps of Austra, Purity Ring, and even Liars, EMA’s The Future Void is a sleeper hit that should always have a place in your back pocket this summer. Erika M. Anderson’s sophomore effort is a Matador essential; an inescapable piece that mingles with your favourite genres before lodging itself in the back of your head so it can explode over and over again. Though the LP is a neccessity, it’s crucial to see EMA perform as her rather intimate set at Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern (May 6th) showed just how biting her passion can be – six-string or no six-string. Rhode Island’s DOWNTOWN BOYS also provided support and holy shit, dance punx rules (here’s their Bandcamp).
