Three weeks into their reunion tour, UNDEROATH set up shop at Michigan’s Royal Oak Music Theatre on Friday (April 8th) and basically tore the concert hall apart. Beverly, MA’s CASPIAN helped kick off the sold-out gig — dive-bombing into Dust And Disquiet and a calculated mess of heady post-rock soliloquies — but it was all about the headliner and every ethereal bit of nostalgia that followed. Spencer Chamberlain and co. retraced They’re Only Chasing Safety and Define The Great Line in full, and while they did a stand up job at balancing fan faves with more fan faves, their renewed chemistry turned their headliner into a “feel-good” return to form. Simply put, “Returning Empty Handed” and “There Could Be Nothing After This” are still capable of splitting your head wide open.
